Brones, 84, of Lake Mills, died Monday, July 14, 2014, at the Lutheran Retirement Home in Northwood. Funeral services will be 1:30 p.m. Saturday, July 19, 2014, at Salem Lutheran Church in Lake Mills, with Pastor Randy Baldwin officiating. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday at Mittelstadt Funeral Home, 902 E. Main Street in Lake Mills, and at the church one hour prior to the service. Burial will be at Salem Memorial Cemetery in Lake Mills, with military rites by Lake Mills American Legion Post #235. Max Brones was born on Aug. 4, 1929 to Thelma Arneson and Lyle Brones in Worth County, Iowa. He was baptized and confirmed at Bethany Lutheran Church in Joice, Iowa. The family later transferred to Salem Lutheran Church in 1970. He grew up on the family farm, attended grade school at Clark Country School and graduated from Joice High School in the class of 1947 where he lettered in baseball and basketball his junior and senior years. He continued to play baseball for the Lake Mills Legion Club and later Emmons and Lake Mills city teams. He also loved to play softball for his church team. He was proud of being a catcher with Jim Tweed all those years as the pitcher. Max was proud to have served his country during the Korean Conflict from 1951-1953. After Max’s return from his years in the armed service, he and Margie Thrond were married at Bethany Lutheran Church in Thompson, Iowa, on Oct. 17, 1953. Max loved attending his children’s and grandchildren’s sporting events and was proud of their teams’ successes. He loved working with youth in Cub Scouts, Boy Scouts and 4-H. He also offered to teach Sunday school but told his wife later he would keep order if she gave the Bible lesson. He loved raising livestock and took good care of the newborns. He brought them in the house to warm them in ice storms. He was a substitute school bus driver and he loved greeting the kids. He enjoyed the young teens when they helped him bale hay or whatever the task. Ed, Randy and Carlyle probably remember his work habits. He believed in progression and served the city for two terms as councilman from 1976-1984. He served as commander of the Joice American Legion. He loved hunting and spent the entire season with Marlin Anderson besides several trips out west with family and other hunting friends, brother-in-law Truman, Pastor Dalen, the Evenson family and many others. He was in the livestock buying and trucking business in Joice for many years. He later started trucking for the new tile plant in Lake Mills, Certain Teed Daymond. After he retired as a farmer and businessman, he began delivering motor homes for Winnebago. His main driving buddy was Leo Schmidthuber. He later was promoted to inspecting the motor homes for the dispatch offices of Morgan Driveaway and later Bennett in Forest City. He accompanied his wife at several nursing conventions and wondered what she told people to get him entrance at the individual sessions (since he wasn’t a nurse). His wife told him that she told them “you have beginning Alzheimer’s and can’t be alone.” He always responded with just an, “Oh.” He loved interacting with people and appreciated the care and attention given by staff at the Lutheran Retirement Home. He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Margie Brones, his children, Lynn and Laura Brones of Johnston, Iowa, Lee and Nisi Brones of Louisville, Ky., Lisa and Chris Huber of Louisville, Ky., and Lori and Scott Westcott of Lake Mills, Iowa; grandchildren, Brock and Brett Brones, Keona Satterfield, Bryan Coatley, Marques, Brandon and Kelsea Brones, Megan and Morgan Fjelstad, Madison Westcott, and Alex and Ashley Huber, and great-grandchildren, Anthony, Avery, Kori, Ryleigh, Braylon and Leelyn. Max is also survived by his sister, Diane Sewald and husband Ed, brothers-in-law, Arnold Thrond, Truman Thrond and wife Barb, Dale Thrond and wife, Kathy, and several nieces, nephews, and extended relatives. Earl Wesley Cramer was born on December 16, 1922 to Ernest and Jennie Cleo (Chapman) Cramer on a farm north of Blairsburg, Iowa. He attended rural school, and graduated from Blairsburg High School in 1941. He was married to Mae Etta Mogle on October 6, 1946 in Iowa Falls. They settled on the home farm until his retirement in 1994. The couple later moved to Clarion in June of 2004. Farming was Earl’s life. He was both a 4-H and Farm Bureau member. He also served on many committees at the United Church of Christ Congregational in Blairsburg, where he was a life long member. Earl is survived by his wife Mae Etta of Clarion, Iowa; children William Cramer (Ruth) of Clarion, and Nancy Greenwood (Kurt) of Altoona, Iowa; grandchildren Angela Dorenkamp (Matt) of Huxley, Jayson Cramer (Jamie) of Goldfield, Brandon Greenwood of Altoona, and Caitlyn Greenwood of Altoona; great-grandchildren Avree Anderson and Makenna Anderson, both of Huxley and Gage Cramer, Meah Cramer, Chase Cramer and Gunner Cramer, all of Goldfield; sister-in-law Helen Cramer of Webster City; along with numerous nieces and nephews, other relatives and friends. Pennington, 86, of Mason City, died Wednesday, July 16, 2014, at home due to congestive heart failure. Gordon was cremated and there will be a celebration of his life at a later date. Gordon was born April 16, 1928, in Rochester, Minn., the son of Milo and Luella (Smart) Pennington. He grew up in Duluth, graduated from high school in Amery, Wis., and then enlisted in the Navy. After his service he reunited with his parents in Mason City and physically helped his dad build Pennington Grocery on Highway 65, north of town. Together they ran the store, gas station and trailer court until 1969. The following years Gordon was employed as a meat inspector with the USDA and worked at both Deckers Meat Packing Plant and Iowa Beef Processing until 1975, when he was then transferred to Marshall, Mo., where he continued as an inspector until retiring in 1988. He spent the following years living on an acreage near Boonville, Mo., until returning to Mason City in 2008. In 1947 Gordon met the love of his life, Betty Figgins, when his dad hired her stepfather to help them build the store. They were married in 1950 and to this union they were blessed with three children, Debbie, Randy and Tami. The family enjoyed many summers at their cabin in Waterville, Minn., where Gordon loved to fish and learned to golf. After retirement Gordon and Betty enjoyed occasional trips to Las Vegas and local casinos. Gordon was a member of the Masonic Lodge, the Loyal Order of the Moose, and the United Methodist Church. Gordon is survived by his wife, daughter Debra (Jerry) Sedars, Mason City; son Randall (Mitzi) Pennington, Lakeville, Ill.; daughter Tamre Walter, Marshall, Mo.; grandchildren, Jayme, Travis and Dustin Sedars; Ryan and Christopher Pennington; Tessa Philips and Shane Walter; “adopted” granddaughter Jordan Reilly, Louisville, Colo.; 12 great-grandchildren; and sister and brother-in-law, Betty “Bing” and Warren Nielsen, Dumont. He was raised in Cedar Falls, Iowa, and later grew up in Mason City. Mike attended Accounting-Hamilton Business College and was a U.S. Air Force veteran during Vietnam War. For more than 25 years, he was employed with the U.S. Post Office as a Postal Clerk, retiring in 2004. In 1991, Mike moved to the Des Moines area. On Dec. 3, 2004, he was united in marriage to Kathy Keller. He enjoyed cooking, fishing, walking and golfing. Mike loved spending time with his family whom he dearly loved, as well as going to his grandchildren~s sport events. He also loved his two granddoggies, “Abby” and “Whitney.” Mike was a wonderful, generous, loving, caring and devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend. He will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him. With John, Eloise raised seven children in Ottumwa and Cedar Rapids, working as a payroll supervisor at Life Investors and paymaster at Century Engineering. After John died, she relocated to the New Orleans area for over 10 years, where she was recognized by hospice as a volunteer, was the lead talent in a commercial after Hurricane Katrina and became treasurer for SESMA at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church. In 2012, Eloise moved to Clear Lake and was an active resident at Oakwood Care Center. Please celebrate Eloise’s life with us. Keith lived and worked in the Forest City area for most of his life. He enjoyed writing songs, animals, spending time at the Branding Iron in Thompson and especially, his family. Keith had a giving personality and big heart. He was often referred to as a man who would give the shirt off his back, even if it wasn~t his. Rich was a avid Green Bay Packers fan and also enjoyed watching the Iowa Hawkeyes. His family meant the most to him, especially his two grandsons, Zander and Josiah. Steven Lee Gladson was born May 4, 1959, in Des Moines, Iowa, the son of Stanley Lee and Stella Louise (Pugh) Gladson. At the age of 6 the family moved to Dysart and Steve was raised there. At the age of 17 he enlisted in the United States Army. He was stationed at Fort Carson in Colorado for the next seven years in the tank track mechanic and recovery unit. Steve enjoyed his time in the military and always took great pride in this. On Dec. 27, 1983, he married Kathy Fowler and they raised four children together. He and his family moved to Forest City in 1988. He started employment with Winnebago Industries and worked in several departments -- plastics, warehouse and part sales. Steve loved his family and he especially enjoyed the time he spent with his grandchildren, attending their sporting events, and also loved taking them fishing. He will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved him. He is survived by his wife, Kathy of Forest City; children, Wendy (Kevin) Wickman of Fairfax, Iowa, Tammy Lyons of Forest City, Joshua Bohnstengel and fiancée Jen Nash of Forest City, Michael (Alison) Bohnstengel of Andalusia, Ill., father, Stanley Gladson of West Plaines, Mo., siblings, Shirley Morgan of Montezuma, Ind., Stoney (Joyce) Gladson of Waterloo, John (Carleen) Gladson of Federal Way, Wash., Scott (Marie) Gladson of Dysart, Iowa, and Sandy (Ron) Haws of West Plaines, Mo.; seven grandsons and many nieces and nephews. Bob was born Feb. 26, 1924, to George Peter Gettman and Sara Pearl Shaner Gettman, the second of nine children. Bob graduated from Mason City High School in 1942. At the age of 18, he was drafted into the Army. He was selected for higher education and received two years of credit in 12 months at the University of Utah, studying engineering. He became a Technical Sergeant in the Third Army of General George Patton in the 13th Armored, Black Cat Division, serving in the Battle of the Bulge. Bob was a tank bow gunner and assistant driver. His division later liberated prisoner of war camps and concentration camps. He married Dorothy Johnson on August 3, 1945. In 1947, Bob started working for Pritchard Ford in Mason City as a salesman, winning the coveted Top Hatter Award several years, putting him in the top 3 percent of all Ford salesmen. His Ford career spanned 38 years, and he retired from Don Lafrenz Ford in 1984. He and his first wife had four daughters. They were later divorced. In 1992, He married Elaine Crouse. Bob is survived by his daughters, Rita Duffield and husband John of Summerfield, Fla., Wendy Moser and husband Rob of Clear Lake and Naples, Fla., Connie Iske and husband Don of Loves Park, Ill., and Penny Torres and husband Rob of Cliffside Park, N.J.; stepdaughter, Gloria Beeman and husband Gene of Fertile; nine grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren. He is also survived by brothers, Ron Gettman and Bruce Gettman, and sisters Dorothy Ornberg, Marvel Buehner, Faye Lee and Lynda McMannes. She was born Feb. 18, 1926, to Louie and Ethel (Marchant) Kollman in Rudd, Iowa. She graduated from Rudd High School in 1944 and married her husband of 47 years, Harold White, on Nov. 17, 1945, in Albert Lea, Minn. Bonita was employed with various jobs in the area, one of which was the Farmers Mutual Telephone Co. before it became Omnitel Comunications. She loved to bake, garden and bird watch. She is survived by her sons, Dorryl (Dori) White of Derby, Kan., and Karlin (Kathy) White of Wichita, Kan.; 4 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren. She is preceded in death by: parents; husband, Harold; brothers, Kenneth, Darwin and LaVerne Kollman; and sister, Darlene Messler. Services will be held 2 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 1, 2014, at the Cochran Mortuary in Wichita, Kan., and a graveside service has been scheduled for 10:30 a.m. Monday, Feb. 3, at the Evergreen Cemetery in Rudd, Iowa.
