Mason City — Mary L. Grace, 59, of Mason City died Friday, June 14, 2013, at Muse-Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit in Mason City.

Per Mary’s wishes, cremation rites have been accorded and a graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, June 25, at Wayne Cemetery, rural Riceville, Iowa, with Pastor Ed Bard officiating.

The family will greet friends from 4 until 7 p.m., Monday, June 24, at Hogan Bremer Moore Colonial Chapel, 126 Third St. N.E., Mason City.

Mary L. Grace, daughter of Earl R. and Virginia (Kristiansen) Grace, was born Feb. 10, 1954, in Riceville, Iowa. Mary graduated with the Riceville High School Class of 1972 and continued her education at Wartburg College, graduating with a bachelor’s degree in 1976.

She became a medical technologist after a one-year internship at a Waterloo hospital. Mary was employed at Mercy Medical Center-North Iowa for 16 years before working with a traveling agency taking her from the east to the West Coast on assignment.

Following her time with the agency, she worked for Kadlec Hospital in Washington State before retiring due to her illness.

She was a lifetime member of the American Society of Clinical Pathology.

Her greatest passion was her career, traveling, and her yearly visit to Maui for the humpback whales’ annual birthing migration. She enjoyed piano, motorcycles and time with her family and friends.

She will be missed by her lifetime partner of 18 years, Suzanne Schmidt, Mason City; mother, Virginia Grace, Le Roy, Minn.; sister, Laura (Carroll) Armstrong, Harmony, Minn., and brother, Doug (Janice) Grace, Rochester, Minn.; special niece, Mary Beth (Tim) Ostrom and son, Graysen, Harmony, Minn.; special cousin, Ernie (Karen) Schofield and daughter, Kristian, Riceville, Iowa; along with many relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her father, Earl R. Grace.

Mary was thankful for all the care and compassion she received from her health care providers.
