In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Darrell Parcel Memorial Fund, a portion of which will be used for a memorial at Smith Lake.

Darrell Edgar Parcel was born January 28, 1947, in Titonka, the fifth of eleven children of Glenn and Leona (McConnell) Parcel. Darrell grew up in the Titonka, Woden, and Burt area attending Burt High School. In earlier years, he worked construction, and he enjoyed trapping and hunting with his dog Rusty.

Darrell was married to Sandy Dettman on August 27, 1966, at Community Church in Algona. He began working at Jack~s OK Tire Service until 1979. He became a coast to coast truck driver. His son Dan joined him on the road every summer. In 1988, he returned to Jacks OK Tire Service. Darrell also was known as the “Pallet Broker” and could be seen pulling his trailer to its destination. His son Dan proudly operates the pallet business today.

On August 14, 1974, Darrell was born again and began his journey with the Lord. His family meant everything to him and the legacy he left behind to them is to have a personal relationship with the Lord. Darrell and Sandy were remarried on December 29, 1989, and lovingly celebrated both anniversary dates from that point on.

Darrell loved teasing and spending time with his wife, kids, grandchildren, and family. He enjoyed fishing, camping, Friday night dates with Sandy, and Sunday drives. Darrell and Sandy enjoyed long walks on St. Pete~s Beach, Florida. He was a faithful member of Grace Church serving as a Trustee and on the Praise Team.

The Lord called Darrell home following 23 years of heart issues on Tuesday, June 24, 2014. He was 67. Darrell~s last generous act of life was becoming an organ donor.

He is survived by his wife Sandy of Algona; four children, Penny and her husband Ringo Karstedt of Brookshire, TX, Stephanie Menneke and her late husband Ron of Algona, Dan Parcel and his wife Amber of Algona, and Abby Stoa and her husband Kevin of Clear Lake; and seven grandchildren, Adam Baldus of Ames, Kayelynn, Chloe, and Cassandra Menneke of Algona, Jordyn and Brianna Parcel of Algona, and Clay Stoa of Clear Lake. He is also survived by his mother-in-law, Barbara Fox of Algona; 5 brothers and 5 sisters, Wanda Winslow of Choctaw, OK, Gerry (Harold) Hughbanks of Attica, KS, Shirley Wheelhouse of Rapid City, SD, Jim (Sharon) Parcel of Riceville, Ed (Jeannie) Parcel of Osage, Bill (Jessie) Parcel of Algona, Zelma Parcel of Algona, Bob (Sue) Parcel of Luverne, Harvey (Mary) Parcel of Waterloo; and Carol (Merlyn) Schweizer of Rudd; and many nieces, nephews, other family members, and special friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his son-in-law, Ron Menneke; and his fathers-in-law, Milton Dettman and Richard Fox.
