Daisy Kiewiet, age 99 of Buffalo Center passed away Friday December 13 at the Good Shepherd Health Center in Mason City.

Funeral services will be held 10:30 AM Friday December 20 at the First Congregational Church in Buffalo Center with Pastor Brad DeVries officiating. Visitation will be Thursday December 19 from 5-7 PM at Winter Funeral Home in Buffalo Center and one hour prior to the service.

Interment will be at Olena Mound Cemetery in Buffalo Center.

Daisy, daughter of Nathan and Lora (Rhoer) Abbott, was born January 13, 1914 in Webster City, IA and was the oldest of six children. She graduated from Webster City High School in 1933. After high school Daisy moved to Buffalo Center to join a high school friend, Ann Tapper. Daisy worked at many different retail businesses throughout her career.

She met and married Vernon Kiewiet on October 16, 1937 and to this union four children were born; Carolyn, Carlyle, Betty June and Bill. Throughout their married life Vernon and Daisy farmed, milked cows and owned the Pure Oil Company gas station. Daisy moved to town when Vernon passed away on September 16, 1972.

Daisy had many hobbies. She enjoyed quilting and gave each of her 12 grandchildren and 28 great grandchildren a baby quilt when they were born. The last quilt she made was in 2011 for a great grandchild. Daisy also loved embroidering. She made thousands of dishtowels for all four children and all the grandchildren. You never left from a visit without some embroidered dishtowels. She also enjoyed bowling, golf, crafts, visiting the nursing home and Women’s Fellowship.

She is survived by her children; Carolyn Ruggles of Des Moines, IA, Carlyle (MaryLee) Kiewiet of Forest City, IA, Betty June Sifuentes of Spring, TX and Bill (Sharon) Kiewiet of Mason City, IA, grandchildren; Jeff (Joanie) Ruggles of Fort Collins, CO, Julie (Randy) Gamble of Winterset, IA, Jay Ruggles of Des Moines, IA, Joy (Wes) Riihl of New Richland, MN, Rich (Brenda) Kiewiet of Dumas, TX, Arthur Sifuentes (fiancée Jamie Crowe) of Spring, TX, Sandy (Russell) Haydel of Spring, TX, Steve Sifuentes of Forest City, IA, Joe Sifuentes (Jean Henning) of Fertile, IA, Justin Kiewiet of Littleton, CO, Gretchen (Jody) Wynia of Raleigh, NC and Nate (Maggie) Kiewiet of Leawood, KS. Twenty-eight great grandchildren, one great-great grandchild, her sister June Algoe of Fort Dodge, IA, sister-in-law, Deb Abbott of Council Bluffs, IA, brother and sister-in-law Todd and Ethel Kiewiet of Buffalo Center, IA, and brother-in-law Lloyd Kiewiet of Buffalo Center, IA.

Daisy is preceded in death by her husband Vernon, her parents, Nathan and Lora Abbott, brothers Chester (Kris) Abbott and Dale Abbott, sisters Ruth (George) Johnson and Helen (Daryl) Zenor, brother-in-laws Henry (Lenora) Kiewiet, Jacob (Ruby) Kiewiet, Wilbur (Marge) Kiewiet, Carl (Betty) Kiewiet, sister-in-laws Charlotte (Donald) Bennett, Lillian (George) Beaving, Gwen (Ted) Cohen and Harriett Kiewiet, nephews, Mike Algoe, Mike Cohen and nieces, Sharon Zenor and Karen Engleman.
