Roger Hanson, age 73, of Algona, died on Monday February 25, 2013 at the Kossuth Regional Health Center in Algona. Funeral services will be 11:30 AM Thursday at Lentz Funeral Home in Algona, with Rev. Steven McElroy officiating. Burial will be in East Lawn Cemetery in Algona. Visitation will be 9:30 am until service time Thursday at Lentz Funeral Home in Algona.

Roger Gene Hanson, the son of Harley Eugene and Leola M. (Johnson) Hanson, was born on July 30, 1939 in Clear Lake, Iowa. He graduated from Algona High School in 1957. Roger served in the Army Reserves from 1957 – 1964. On June 6, 1959 he was united in marriage with Sharon Sabin at the First United Methodist Church in Algona. Roger had worked as a farmer and then in construction. He was a member of First United Methodist Church in Algona. Roger enjoyed camping, hunting, fishing and spending time with his family.

Left to cherish Roger’s memory is his wife of 53 years, Sharon; two sons, Jeff Hanson and his wife Wanda of Bondurant and Bryan Hanson and his wife Carrie of Des Moines; four grandchildren; one great grandchild; two brothers, Gerald Hanson and his wife Emma and Dennis Hanson and his wife Donna all of Algona. He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Wayne in 2011; a brother, Duane Hanson; a sister, Mary Goodman; and a half brother, Gene Hanson.
