Nora Springs — Mary Lou (Reynolds) Rethamel, 81, of Nora Springs, died Wednesday, Jan. 16, 2013, at Mercy Medical Center-North Iowa in Mason City.

A memorial service will be held at 10:30 a.m. today, Saturday, Jan. 19, at Sheckler Colonial Chapel, 114 N. Hawkeye Ave., Nora Springs, with the Rev. Jerry Avise-Rouse of the Nora Springs United Methodist Church officiating. Inurnment will follow in Elmwood-St. Joseph Cemetery, Mason City.

Visitation will be held one hour prior to Mary Lou’s service at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be left in Mary Lou’s name to Hospice of North Iowa.

Mary Lou Engleman was born on March 24, 1931, in Nora Springs, the daughter of Emmon and Hazel (Cooper) Engleman, she was one of 13 children. She attended school in Nora Springs before being united in marriage to Max Reynolds at the age of 16. Together they would be blessed with four children, Michael, Susan, Pattie, and Dan.

For many years, Mary Lou and Max made their home in California before moving back to Nora Springs in June of 1967. Max would precede Mary Lou in death in 1993.

On Oct. 16, 1998 Mary Lou was united in marriage to Art Rethamel in Nora Springs; they would be blessed with 15 years together.

In her free time, Mary Lou enjoyed reading, tending to her garden, bird watching, and camping and fishing. She loved solving crossword puzzles and word searches. However, her greatest love was spending time with her family, and she cherished the time spent with her grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Those grateful in sharing in her life are her husband, Art Rethamel, Nora Springs, children, Susan Healey, Costa Mesa, Calif., Pattie Gruis, Costa Mesa, Calif., and Dan Reynolds, Costa Mesa, Calif.; Art’s children, Don (Connie) Rethamel, Nora Springs, and Dan Rethamel, Nora Springs; grandchildren, Mike, Pat, Laurie, Dee, Jenna, Sterling, and Matthew; five step-grandchildren; great-grandchildren, Mika, Kalie, Kaleb, Taylor, Madison, Mackenzie, Jonathen, Camden, and Braydon; seven step-great-grandchildren; three step-great- great-grandchildren; siblings, Robert (Dede) Engleman, Mason City, Donna Knudtson, Moline, Ill., and Jack (Loretta) Engleman, Morris, Ill.; as well as extended family members and many friends.

She is preceded in death by her parents; husband, Max Reynolds; son, Michael Reynolds; son in law, George Healey; granddaughter, Carrie Meggars; and nine siblings.
