MASON CITY |Nancy Jane Ried, 79, went home to be with our Lord Friday October 18, 2013 in Dallas, Texas.

Funeral services will be held 1 p.m. Saturday, October 26, 2013, at the First Assembly of God Church, 1301 North Carolina Ave., Mason City, with Pastor George Ady officiating. Interment will be held in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be held 11 a.m. until time of service at the church on Saturday. Memorials may be directed to the Nancy J. Ried Memorial Fund in care of the family.

Nancy was born in Des Moines, Iowa, to Maxine and George Wilkie. She graduated from Menlo Cons. School in 1951. Nancy married John Ried on June 7, 1953, in Menlo, Iowa. They had four sons. They moved from Des Moines to Mason City in 1965.

A fond memory was seeing her try to bake Danish cookies while using less sugar. She used a sugar substitute but the cookies never tasted the same.

Nancy enjoyed raising her boys and playing games. For years, she painted ceramic figurines and decorations for every season and holiday. Her home was filled with the pieces. She enjoyed quilting and crocheting.

She has traveled to places in Europe and the U.S. while visiting her children or going on vacation. Also, many summers were spent going camping with the family when the children were young.

Nancy regularly attended the First Assembly of God in Mason City.

She is survived by her sons, Richard (Debra) of Losotho Africa, Daniel of Dallas, Texas, Michael (Sally) of Cypress, Texas, and Stephen (Isolde) of Theresa, N.Y., one sister, Donna Haag of Creston, Iowa, one brother, Rudy Wilkie of Kansas City, Mo., 17 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren and one on the way.

She was preceded in death by her husband John, her parents and her brother Ronald at age 6.
