She was a graduate of the University of Florida. Marty received a master’s degree in German with a minor in French at the University of Illinois and spent two years living in Germany and Austria she became fluent in German.
Marty began her career teaching in Milwaukee, Wis. She moved to Mason City in 1985 and taught German at Mason City High School for several years. It was there she met her husband of 25 years Curt Nelson. They were married on August 19, 1988, at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Clear Lake, Iowa.
She later taught German and French at North Iowa Area Community College for two years.

Eventually, she returned to school and pursued a degree in Spanish at the University of Northern Iowa and also studied at a language school in Mexico.
Teaching was always her great love and she truly found a home teaching Spanish at Osage High School. She loved the wonderful students and staff there.

Marty and Curt loved traveling, music and ballroom dancing. Marty taught dancing to a wonderful group of students in Osage.
Marty is survived by her husband of twenty-five years, Curt Nelson, her brothers Steve Pauley and Jim Pauley, her sister Camille Newton, and her mothers, Anne McKelvey and Rebecca Harllee and a very special friend, Monika Huber.
