Duane Mawdsley, age 80, of Burt, died on Sunday, June 30, 2013 at the Kossuth Regional Health Center in Algona. Funeral services will be 11:00 AM Wednesday at the Burt Presbyterian Church, with Rev. Dr. Glenn Wilson officiating. Burial will be in the Riverview Cemetery in Algona. Visitation will be 4:00 – 8:00 PM at the church on Tuesday.
Duane Eugene Mawdsley, the son of Roscoe I. and Delia Mae (Robison) Mawdsley, was born on July 28, 1932 on the family farm in Plum Creek Township. He graduated from Burt High School in 1952. He served in the U.S. Army as a wheeled vehicle mechanic and was stationed in Germany during the Korean War. On June 29, 1957 he was united in marriage with Marjorie Hauck at the First United Methodist Church in Algona. Duane farmed with his brother most of his life and continued to help on the farm even after his retirement. He was a member of the Burt Presbyterian Church where he faithfully served as an Elder, Trustee, Head Usher and Sunday School Secretary/Treasurer. Duane was the quiet strength of his family and a friend to all. He enjoyed traveling, visiting and helping people and spending time with his grandchildren.
Left to cherish Duane~s memory is his wife of 56 years, Marjorie; two sons, Verdean and David Mawdsley both of Burt; a daughter, Meladee (Tim) Angus of Ames; four grandchildren, Hollie (Carl) Clark, Peter (Kim) Angus, Tyler and Derek Mawdsley; four great grandchildren; a brother, Roscoe (Evelyn) Mawdsley of Burt; and a sister, Dolores Mawdsley of Newton. He was preceded in death by his parents and his step-mother June (Corey) Mawdsley.
Memorials may be made in Duane’s name to the Burt Presbyterian Church or the Hospice of the Heartland.
