Dale Bernard Mauer, age 82, of Stacyville, died Friday, June 21, 2013, at the Stacyville Nursing Home.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, June 25, 2013, at Visitation Catholic Church in Stacyville with Msgr. John Hemann officiating. Friends may greet the family from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. Monday at Visitation Catholic Church in Stacyville with a rosary at 4:30 p.m. and a vigil service at 7:00 p.m. Burial will be in Visitation Cemetery with military honors by Stacyville American Legion Post 569.

Dale was born August 8, 1930, on the family farm near Stacyville, the son of Frank and Elizabeth (Adams) Mauer. He was educated at Visitation Catholic Schools graduating in 1949. Following graduation, he served with the U.S. Army in Korea. On August 29, 1953, Dale married Theresa Adams. He was employed at the Stacyville Elevator and Oliver Tractor in Charles City. In his younger years, Dale enjoyed playing baseball. He was a catcher and many knew him as “Dusty”. Later, he enjoyed watching baseball games on TV or listening on the radio. He was an avid gardener and was well known for his rotisserie chicken and for being Santa’s Helper. Dale loved spending time with his grandchildren.

Dale is survived by his wife, Theresa of Stacyville; nine children, Steve Mauer of Loveland, CO., Patricia (Craig) Farlinger of West Liberty, Stanley Mauer of Little Cedar, Wayne (Vickie) Mauer of Pacific Junction, Peg (Eric) Eppard of Marion, Lisa (Carl) Farlinger of St. Ansgar, Michelle (Paul) Halbach of Stacyville, Pam (Jim) Brincks of Mason City, Shawn (Tammy) Mauer of Riceville; 24 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; brothers, Dean (Jeannie) Mauer of Riceville, Darwin (Marlene) Mauer of Denver, Danny (Dorothy) Mauer of Agency, Howdy (Judy) Mauer of Waterloo, and Bill (Darla) Mauer of Charles City.

He was preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Gerianne Mullenbach and son-in-law, Lee Mullenbach; grandson, Lucas Farlinger; four brothers, Othmar, Roman, Arthur and Orville Mauer; and one sister, Angela Ginder.
