BURNSVILLE, MN — Rachel Marty, born Emma Rachel Hurt, passed away on June 12, 2013, in Burnsville, Minn. She was preceded in death by her husband, Dr. Sophocles D. Marty. She is survived by two sisters, four children, and six grandchildren.
Rachel was born on June 7, 1932, in Bristol, Va., and grew up on a farm. She attended William and Mary College, where she met her future husband. They moved to Mason City, Iowa, in 1960. Rachel enjoyed leading Girl Scout day camps, tutoring in reading and math, weaving, and supporting important causes. She loved animals and reading.
