Lake Mills — Carroll R. “Mickey” Low, age 93, of Lake Mills, Iowa, died Monday, Sept. 2, 2013, at the Muse-Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit in Mason City, Iowa.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, September 6, at Salem Lutheran Church in Lake Mills, with Pastor David E. Jordon officiating. Burial will take place in Sunset Rest Cemetery, Northwood, Iowa.
Visitation will be one hour prior to services at the church on Friday.
Carroll Ross “Mickey” Low was born on March 24, 1920, in Gordonsville, Minn., to parents Manley and Blanche (Wells) Low. He grew up in the Northwood area and attended country school. Carroll was baptized and confirmed at First Lutheran Church in Northwood.
On January 15, 1938, he was united in marriage with Frances V. Turvold at the First Lutheran Church parsonage. The couple was blessed with four children, and they lived in rural Northwood, where Carroll farmed. In 1964, the family moved to Lake Mills, and Mickey began working at Deluxe Products. Carroll retired in 1983 from the Lake Mills Police Department where he had been employed for 15 years.
He enjoyed going to auctions, camping, playing cards and dining out with family and friends. Carroll and Frances were members of Salem Lutheran Church in Lake Mills.
Survivors include his children, Darrell (Sharlene) Low of Yale, Okla., David Sr. “Sonny” (Loraine) Low of Waseca, Minn., and Janell “Sis” (Eldren) Holstad of Spencer, Iowa; daughter-in-law, Carolyn Low of Franklin, Ky.; 12 grandchildren: Tommy (Cynthia) Low of Stillwater, Okla., Terry (Connie) Low of Yale, Okla., Tracy Geer of Yale, Tammy (Michael) Prince of Yale, Lynne Holstad of Spencer, Deanna Hewitt of St. Peter, Minn., David Low Jr. of St. Ansgar, Iowa, Juli (Dean) Redig of Wells, Minn., Kimberly (Gary) Sliger of Franklin, Monica Arthur of Franklin, Valerie (Jesse) Curtis of Franklin, and Darrin Low of Franklin; one step-grandchild, Larissa (Kevin) Madewell of Franklin; 37 great-grandchildren, and 9 great-great-grandchildren.
He is also survived by a sister, Bernice “Sis” Estes of Northwood; a brother Richard (Marge) Low of Northwood; and two sisters-in-law, DeLoris Low and Pat Low, both of Northwood; as well as many nieces, nephews and friends.
Carroll was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Frances; son, Burnell Low; and siblings and their spouses: sisters, Lucile “Cile” (George) Mathews, Pearl (Leif) Weston, and Arlene “Snookey” (Carl) Grosland, and brothers, Vale (Bernice) Low, Clarence “Babe” (Luella) Low, Harold “Honey” (Eleanor) Low, Russell (Dorothy) Low, Allen “Sonny” Low, and Lyle “Bub” Low.
