She was born on June 3, 1920, in Farindola, Italy, to Domenic and Spinalba Nardicchio. At the age of nine months, despite contracting rheumatic fever along the way, she survived the long rough boat ride to the U.S.A. with her mother and older brother, Joe. Her father arrived some time before to find work and set up a new life for the Nardicchios as full citizens of this great country.
They settled in Mason City, on the famed Lehigh Row, and Mary attended Mason City schools. Her first known job was as a waitress at the “Over The Top Café” where she would meet her future husband, Gail Lamb. Gail worked at Bayes Bakery across the street.
Mary and Gail were united in marriage in August of 1940 and this union would last 63 years. Mary and Gail had one son, Danny.
Soon after her waitress job and Gail’s bakery career, Mary and Gail both went to work for Mason City Community Schools in the custodial department. They continued there until retirement.
Mary enjoyed sewing, all kinds of crafts, traveling, music and dancing, playing cards, family dinners, her church, and a lifetime of good fellowship with many friends and family members.
Mary had a big heart. Her generosity and kindness was proof of that to all. She will be greatly missed.
Mary Lamb was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church.
She was preceded in death by her father, Domenic; mother, Spinalba; brother, Joseph; son, Danny; and husband, Gail.
She is survived by sisters, Josephine Ellefson (Clear Lake), Lena Peyton (Belmond), Florence Dewey (Clear Lake), and many nieces and nephews including great, great-great, and great-great-great.
Mary, as did her family, appreciated the exceptional care the staff at Good Shepherd Health Center provided her.
