OSAGE | Elizabeth “Betty” Kleckner, 91, of Osage, died Saturday, December 28, 2013, at Faith Lutheran Home in Osage.

A Memorial Mass will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 4, 2014, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Osage with Father Raymond Burkle officiating. There will be a gathering of family and friends from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday at Champion-Bucheit Funeral Home in Osage with a rosary at 4:30 p.m. and a scripture wake service at 6:30 p.m. Inurnment will be in St. Peter’s Cemetery, New Haven.

Betty was born November 24, 1922, in Clear Lake, the daughter of Otha and Wanda (Lundy) Francis. She graduated from Orchard High School in 1940.

Betty attended college at Iowa State Teachers College in Cedar Falls and received her teacher’s certificate. She taught at the Mount Pleasant country school near New Haven for two years.

On May 2, 1944, Betty married Bernard Kleckner at St. Peter’s Catholic Church in New Haven. To this union, six children were born. They farmed near New Haven until Bernard’s retirement. For over 30 years she ran Betty’s Drapery, making window coverings.

Betty was a member of the ACCW, an active member of the Farm Bureau and was a very passionate member of the Republican Party on various levels. When her children were younger, she was involved with 4-H. Betty enjoyed knitting, crocheting, watching sports and was a very competitive card player.

Betty is survived by her two daughters, Diane (Gary) Krebsbach of Osage, Carol Kleckner of Ames; three sons, Duane (Maureen) Kleckner of Huntington Beach, Calif.; Larry (Diane) Kleckner of Audubon, Richard (Mavis) Kleckner of Huntington Beach, Calif.; 13 grandchildren, Scott (Libby) Krebsbach of Denver, Lisa Krebsbach of Osage, Jason (Jenny) Krebsbach of Osage, Amy (Chad) Sparks of Polk City, Cody (Jeri) Kleckner of Ames, April Kleckner of Ames, Amy (Perry De Luca) Kleckner of San Francisco, Calif., and David (Nina) Kleckner of Huntington Beach, Calif.; Linsey (Perry) Petersen of North St. Paul, Minn.; Allison (Erik) Ullestad of West Des Moines, Laura (Matt) Langreck, of Scandia, Minn.; Andrea Kleckner of Huntington Beach, Calif., and Dylan Kleckner of Cedar Falls; 21 great-grandchildren; a sister, Juanita Halvorson of Osage; a brother-in-law, Bill Rothenbuler of California; three sisters-in-law, Zella Francis of Osage, Delores Byrnes of Riceville and Eileen Kleckner of Osage; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Bernard, in 1992; a son, Tom in 2004; a sister, Maxine Dostart; three brothers, Melvin Francis, Keith Francis and Gerald Francis; sisters-in-law, Lucille Francis, Martha Francis, Dorothy Smalley, Elaine Havig, Margaret Taegte, Kathy Rothenbuler; brothers-in-law, John Dostart, Louis Halvorson, Marion Smalley, Marlin Havig, Donald Kleckner, and Jack Taegte.
