Charles City — John G. Geesman, 80, of Charles City, died Monday, June 17, 2013, at Floyd County Memorial Hospital in Charles City.
A private family graveside service was held on June 29, 2013, at Riverview Cemetery in Algona. Full military honors were conducted by the Algona American Legion and V.F.W.

John Gordon Geesman was born March 6, 1933, in Albert Lea, Minn., the youngest of 11 children of John C. and Stella (Schroeder) Geesman. He grew up on a farm near Alden, Minn., moving with his family to Burt, Iowa, where he graduated from Burt High School in 1951.
He served in the United States Marine Corps being stationed at Camp Pendleton. He was honorably discharged as a sergeant after passing his exam on Nov. 4, 1953.
John was united in marriage to Doris LaVonne Riebhoff on July 10, 1954, in Rockwell City. They moved to Ames where he studied engineering prior to going to linotype printing school.
John and Doris made their home in Greene where he worked at the Greene Recorder Newspaper. In 1980, they moved to make their home in rural Charles City.
John enjoyed following politics and the stock market. He was an honest, fair and loving man who enjoyed spending time with his family.
He is survived by three children: Lois Gilmore and her husband, Terry of Farmington, Minn., Jayne Pluth and her husband, Dr. Jim Pluth of Rochester, Minn., and John T. Geesman of Mason City; seven grandchildren: Allison (Joseph Ross) Gilmore of Los Angeles, Calif., Michael Gilmore of Farmington, Minn., Daniel (Brittany Petrick) Pluth of Ames, Anthony (Sara) Pluth of Chaska, Minn., Michelle Pluth of Rochester, Minn., John W. (Brittany) Geesman of Waterloo, and Ashley Geesman of Mason City; and one great-grandson, Elliot Gilmore Ross. He is also survived by one sister, Florence White of Fargo, N.D., and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Doris, on May 3, 2001; and by nine brothers and sisters: Jean, Charles, Eileen, Nina, Jim, Gerald, Lila, Earl and Howard.
