Joice — Larry Lee Burke, a father, brother, grandfather, great-grandfather, uncle and friend passed away peacefully on Feb. 21, 2013, at Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit in Mason City at the age of 69.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m., Friday, April 5, 2013, at Zion Lutheran Church, 112 N. Fouth St., Clear Lake, with the Rev. Dean Hess presiding.
A memorial visitation will be held one hour prior to the memorial service at the church. A luncheon will be at the church following the service.
In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting donations be made to your local Human Society or Hospice of North Iowa-Muse Norris Inpatient Unit.
Larry Burke, son of Hollis and Violet (Erickson) Burke was born in Fertile, Iowa, on August 19, 1943. He graduated from Fertile High School in 1962 and was inducted into the U.S. Army in 1966; served in Vietnam with an honorable discharge in 1968, being awarded the National Defense Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal and the Combat Infantry Badge.
Larry worked as a truck driver for Ruan for many years, held a real estate license, was a savvy salesman and owned his own trucking and trailer company prior to retiring in Joice and living his life doing what he loved; having a farm and tending to his horses, cattle, chickens, his beloved dogs, Stretch, Shadow, Tina, Bandit, Jake, Auggie, Ollie and his cat Violet.
A special thank-you to Mike Duval, a family friend who was always there to lend a helping hand to Larry. He was loved by many and will be dearly missed.
He is survived by his four children, Robby Burke (Lora) of St. Augustine, Fla., Tiffany Henry (Byron), Foresthill, Calif., Cammie LaValle (Dan), Lakeville, Minn., and Ryan Stafford, Eden Prairie, Minn., two step-daughters, Heidi Christensen (Tim), Bloomington, Minn., and Heather Murphy (Kris), Hudson, Wis., his sister Sandra Hepperly (Duane), Mason City, William Burke (Anne), McGregor, Iowa, and Karen Hintch (Ron) of Hampton, Iowa.
Larry was a grandfather to Allisa (John), Ryan, Austin, Mallory, Loral, Johnathon, Lyle, Jena, Gianni and Ava and a great-grandfather to Cooper.
He is preceded in death by his father, mother and step-mother Evelyn Burke, brother John (Jack) Burke and sister Patricia Patrick (Richard), step-brother, Peter Nissan, step-son Chad Thiesse, nephews Timothy and Christian Burke.
