NORTHWOOD — Marjorie Mae Johnson, 75, passed away Monday, June 2, 2014, at St. Marys Hospital, Rochester.

Funeral services are scheduled for Saturday, June 7, 2014, at 1 p.m. at Deer Creek Lutheran Church, Carpenter, with the Rev. Lance Kittleson officiating.
Burial will be in Deer Creek Cemetery, Carpenter.

Marge was born June 1, 1939, on the family farm in Manly, to Virgil and Ida (Holstad) Hill. She attended a one-room schoolhouse through elementary then graduated from Manly High School as a member of the class of 1957. She attended Iowa State for two years and developed lifelong friendships with some of her floor mates — naming themselves the Continental Corridor.

She married Kenneth Johnson on Sept. 12, 1959, at the Methodist Church in Manly. Marge took on the roles of farm wife, homemaker and mother, in which she excelled.

She had a lifelong dedication to community service through her work at Deer Creek Lutheran Church involved with many women~s groups and also as a leader of the Deer Creek Wohelo 4-H club for many years.

She was a smart and efficient part-time employee of the Worth County Extension office and involved with the Worth County Fair. She also spent many hours helping at the polling stations during elections. She enjoyed her work as a car hop at the Manly drive-in during her teenage years.

Marge enjoyed the Red Hats group she organized as well as cooking and baking for church, family and friends. She enjoyed many crafts including candle making, quilling and vegetable and flower gardening.

She was involved in all aspects of her grandchildren~s school and sports activities and enjoyed hearing about them if she wasn~t able to attend. A favorite past time was to go on drives and planning trips for her and Ken and other family members.

Marge left this world just as she lived her life —with strength, humor, love, acceptance and fearless faith. Her resilience and unwavering commitment to family and friends are among the lasting gifts she gave us. Words cannot describe how much we miss her.

Marge is survived by her husband, Kenneth; daughters Sherry Johnson of St. Paul, Minn., and Kimberly (Ron) Olson of Northwood, and grandchildren Jaleh, Garrett and Mason. Sisters; Carolyn Jackel of Mason City, Iowa, Janet (Francis) Kreb of Cedar Falls, and sister-in-law Sue Hill of Plymouth. And many nieces and nephews.

Marge was preceded in death by her parents, brother Byron Hill and brother-in-law Harlan Jackel.
