Fredrick “Fred” Zimmer, 79, of Floyd, died Sunday, June 8, 2014, at his home near Floyd.
Funeral services for Fred Zimmer will be held 1:30 p.m. Thursday at the Hauser Funeral Home. Pastor Paul Phillips of the Gospel Lighthouse will officiate. Burial will be in Oakwood Cemetery at Floyd.
Friends may call at the Hauser Funeral Home from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday and an hour prior to the service on Thursday.
Fredrick Dean Zimmer was born January 10, 1935, at Charles City, the son of Vern and Amy (Wheat) Zimmer. He received his education at the Floyd Consolidated School. On December 12, 1954, he was united in marriage to Rita Staebler at Colwell. Fred farmed all of his life but also was employed at Oliver/White Farm Corporation. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and traveling. For 17 years Fred and Rita spent their winters in Texas. Family was always very important to Fred and he took every opportunity to share life~s experiences with them.
Living family members include his wife of 60 years, Rita Zimmer of Floyd; three sons, Barry Zimmer of Charles City, and Danny (Elaine) Zimmer and Randy Zimmer both of Floyd; four grandchildren, Melissa, Michelle, Steven and Scott Zimmer; a brother, Lee (Darlyce) of Floyd; and a sister, Beverly (Duane) Bonsall, of Illinois.
He was preceded in death by a sister, Marjorie Petemeier.
