CHARLES CITY — Gwen Koehler, 82, of Charles City, died Thursday, July 25, 2013, at the Floyd County Medical Center in Charles City.

Funeral services for Gwen Koehler will be held 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the Hauser Funeral Home in Charles City. Pastor Martha Bennett will officiate. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery at Charles City.

Friends may call at the Hauser Funeral Home in Charles City from 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, and Wednesday at the funeral home one hour prior to the service.

Gwendolyn Joanne Puhrmann Koehler was born November 13, 1930, in Charles City, the daughter of William J. and Fyrne (Hodgdon) Puhrmann. Gwen received her education in Charles City, graduating from Charles City High School in 1948.

On March 11, 1950, she was united in marriage to Merlyn Koehler in Charles City. The couple made their home in rural Charles City where they raised their family and farmed side by side their entire married life. Gwen also worked as a secretary at various places in Charles City including Oliver Corp. for five years and the Floyd County Extension Service for three years.

She was a member of West St. Charles United Methodist Church where she taught Sunday school and was the Sunday School Superintendent for several years. Gwen was active in the West St. Charles Homemakers, Friendly Birthday Club, 500 Card Club and the United Methodist Women. She enjoyed knitting and embroidery.

Living family members include her two sons: Gary (Susan) Koehler of Rochester, Minn. and Wayne (Lisa) Koehler of Charles City; three grandsons: Michael of Mason City, Nicholas and Alex both of Charles City; along with nieces, nephews and a host of friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Merlyn; and her brother, Bradley Puhrmann.

The Hauser Funeral Home, 641-228-2323, in Charles City, is in charge of arrangements.
