BRITT — Harold F. Kahlstorf, 89, of Britt died Tuesday, April 30, 2013, at Mercy Medical Center-North Iowa in Mason City.
Funeral services will be held 10:30 a.m., Saturday, May 4, at the Evangelical Free Church in Britt with the Rev. Stan Johnson officiating. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery with military rites by the Britt Veterans Ceremonial Unit.
Visitation will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday at the Evangelical Free Church in Britt and will continue one hour prior to services at the church. Cataldo Funeral Home in Britt is in charge of arrangements.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be directed to Gideon’s International or to the donor’s charity of choice.
Harold Frederick Kahlstorf the son of Fred and Freida (Steinburg) Kahlstorf, was born July 25, 1923, on the family near Britt. He attended Liberty Township country school and graduated from Britt High School in 1942. In November of 1944 he married Lola Faye Gates. Harold served his country during WW II in the U.S. Army Air Force. Following his honorable discharge he returned to Britt and farmed until his retirement in 1988. He retired to the Summit House in August of 2009. He was a master woodworker and made various projects for others as well as himself. Motorcycling was also a favorite hobby.
He was a member of Upper Flat Evangelical Free Church where he accepted Christ as his personal Savior and was currently a member of the Britt Evangelical Free Church. He was active in Farm Bureau, was a board member of the Farmer’s Co-op Elevator in Britt, Britt Creamery and Hancock Farm Service Agency.
Harold is survived by his children, Gary (Vicki) Kahlstorf of Britt, Dan (Renita) Kahlstorf of Britt, Sandra (Stan) Giles of Tennessee and Bob (Cheryl) Kahlstorf of Alabama; grandchildren, Jason Kahlstorf, Kelle (Corey) Stohr, Danielle (Michael) Stensrud, Tyler Kahlstorf, Sheila (Jamie) Nielsen, Scott (Aimee Sjostedt) Giles, Shannon (Hunter) Acosta, Charis (Brian) Nordman and Brittney, Austin, and Dalton Kahlstorf; great-grandchildren, Skylar Berthon-Nordman, Thor Stensrud and Brayden Stohr; sister, Millie Sonerholm of Klamath Falls, Ore.; and many nieces, nephews and other family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Lola Faye in 1997; son, Jeffrey in 1966; son, Keith in Vietnam in 1969; a brother, Donald Kahlstorf; sisters, Laura Baade, Gertrude Mortenson, Donna Kahlstorf and Edna Fisher.
