Northwood — Larry Gene Jorgensen, 77, Northwood, died Saturday, July 13, 2013, at the Lutheran Retirement Home in Northwood.
A funeral service for Larry will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, July 16, 2013, at the Conner Colonial Chapel, 1008 First Ave. South, Northwood, with Pastor Judy Converse of First Lutheran Church in Northwood officiating. Burial will be in the Sunset Rest Cemetery in Northwood with military honors conducted by members of Our Buddies VFW Memorial Post No. 6779 of Northwood.
Visitation will be held from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m. today and one hour prior to service time on Tuesday at the chapel.
Larry Gene Jorgensen was born on March 23, 1936, in Norfolk, Neb., the son of David and Esther (Greene) Jorgensen. Larry was a life-long resident of Northwood and graduated from Northwood High School.
Larry entered the Navy at Fort Des Moines on September 21, 1955, and served his country honorably and faithfully until his honorable discharge on September 22, 1959.
He was united in marriage to Judy Dimmel on February 14, 1960, in Austin, Minn., and had been together for 53 years, and to this marriage four children were born, David, Richard, Jennifer and Robert.
Larry was a carpenter for 50 years in and around Northwood. His passions were hunting, fishing and camping.
Those left to cherish his memory are his wife, Judy Jorgensen of Northwood; four children, David (Lisa) Jorgensen of Webster City, Richard Jorgensen of Northwood, Jennifer (James) Collins of Mason City and Robert (Chris) Jorgensen of Rochester, Minn.; seven grandchildren, Kim, Kasey and Christopher Jorgensen, Evan and Noah Collins, and Dylan and Mason Jorgensen; three sisters, Marilyn (Walter) Probst of Ingram Texas, Beth (Gene) Bolsen of Nora Springs and Elaine (Ray) Zobel of Custer, South Dakota, as well as many other nieces, nephews and other extended family members and friends.
Larry was preceded in death by his parents.
