Marilyn was born February 1, 1939 the daughter of Edwin and Marian (Vilmont) Frick on a farm near Durant, Iowa. She married her high school sweetheart Richard L. Jordan on July 27,1956, in Iowa City, Iowa, and graduated from Bennett High School in Bennett, Iowa in 1957.
Marilyn was a very loving mother, who never had to worry where her kids were, because everyone was usually hanging around their house. She was always lending an ear, gave straightforward advice, and loved joking around. She was very involved with her children’s activities such as PTA, Cub Scouts, Blue Birds, Book Fair, Sports, Drama, and Music Boosters. She was a natural caretaker, and always rooted for the “under-dog”. She took care of several elderly people in their homes, and volunteered with special needs children. Marilyn never met a stranger.
She also enjoyed watching her grandkids events, you always knew who belonged to her while cheering in the crowd. She was a little woman with a mighty voice. She was an enthusiastic Minnesota Vikings fan, as well as Iowa Hawkeye basketball and football.
She enjoyed watching the birds and did a lot of gardening and canning in her earlier years. In her golden years she and her husband spent their summers camping and going on long motorcycle trips with good friends.
She loved to play the piano and the accordion her father was so proud to buy her at a young age. She was always the life of the party and teasing due to being so short, but she was full of good humor herself.
One thing she was especially known for was her “BIG HUGS” that were so tight you couldn’t breathe and if she could get away with it, a kiss too.
She is survived by her husband Richard “Dick” of Nashua, IA; one son, Jerry (Chris) of Fairfax, IA; three daughters, Julie (Loren) Becker of Shellsburg, IA, Jill Jordan of Clear Lake, IA, Jeannie (Tom) Laube of Nashua, IA; 10 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren; one sister, Barb VanDenBerghe of Dewitt, IA; one brother, Roger (Sue) Frick of Waukon, IA; one brother-in-law, Marland (DeAnna) Jordan of Lena, IL; several nieces and nephews, and many friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, and a sister Corrine “Connie”.Marilyn Jean Jordan age 74 of Nashua, IA, formally of Cedar Rapids, passed away Wednesday, June 19, 2013, peacefully at home with her family by her side.
