Evelyn, the youngest of nine, was born on January 1, 1926, to Ole and Clara (Holter) Grosland on her parent’s farm in the Bristol Township of Worth County. She was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith at Bristol Church, the church in which her father assisted in building. She graduated from Northwood High School in 1943, and married her best friend and love of her life, Robert Harrison Garnas, at the Little Brown Church in Nashua, on Bob’s birthday, April 3, 1945. They were engaged in farming for 47 years, with the majority of their years spent on the farm they purchased together in Worth County near Hanlontown. During their years together, they raised six children: Robert Eldean (Diane) of Kensett; Richard Eugene (Sandra) of Sioux Falls, S.D.; Rebecca Sue (LeAlan) Helm of Aurora, Colo.; Roberta Lou (John) Cook of Chippewa Falls, Wis.; Rodney Allen (Kim) of Raleigh, N.C.; and Randy LeAllen (Laurie) of Harris, Minn. They were also blessed with numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren who affectionately called Evelyn “GG” or “Little Grandma.” Evelyn honored the Lord through her faith by being active and serving in a variety of capacities at Grace Lutheran Church, Hanlontown. She enjoyed spending time with her family; often staying up late many nights playing games with her children and grandchildren. Evelyn was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, and her seven brothers and one sister.

As the matriarch of her family, we love her dearly and she will be missed immensely; until we meet again.
