Kenneth Sylvester Garman was born March 1, 1934, in Britt, son of Victor and Edna (Lovstad) Garman. He grew up on a farm near Burt attending country school and graduating from St. Cecelia Academy in 1951. He served in the National Guard from 1953 until in 1956.

Kenny was united in marriage to Marilyn Kuhn on June 28, 1954, at St. Cecelia Catholic Church. In earlier years he drove truck for Pioneer and then helped his father on the farm. In 1969, he took over the farming operation and truly enjoyed all aspects of farming, especially his cattle. He retired and moved into Algona in 2007.

He loved having his family all together, attending all of his kids and grandkids sporting events, fishing and restoring antique Allis Chalmers tractors. He was a member of St. Cecelia Catholic Church where he served on the finance committee in earlier years and he was also a member of the Knights of Columbus.

Kenneth S. Garman died Sunday, September 8, 2013 at the age of 79.

He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Marilyn Garman of Algona; 10 children, Debra (Dean) Roberts of Pocahontas, Gary (Vicki) Garman of Ames, Kenneth (LuAnn) Garman of Spencer, Joe (Karen) Garman of Algona, Vic (Jennifer) Garman of Algona, Angela (Mark) Pugh of Fort Dodge, Jeff (Carrie) Garman of Keota, Dave (Amber) Garman of Algona, Stacey (fiancé Lena) Garman of Columbus, OH, and Farrah (Kyle) Wehrspan of Algona; 25 grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by a sister June Garman of Algona; a brother, Ed Garman of Spokane, WA; his brother-in-laws and sisters-in-law, Evelyn Garman of Spokane, WA, Joe Smith of Ames, and Bill (Phyllis) Kuhn of Algona; two uncles, Gerald Garman of Algona, and Robert (Shirley) Lovstad of Burt; an aunt, Mabeline Lovstad of Burt; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a grandson, Jeremy Hanig; two brothers, Richard (Lavonne) Garman, and James Garman; and a sister, Nancy Smith.
