MASON CITY | Irene L. (Maskarina) Willier, 85, of Mason City, died Tuesday (December 31, 2013) at the Good Shepherd Health Center in Mason City.

A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Friday (January 3, 2013) at Hogan Bremer Moore Colonial Chapel, 126 Third St. N.E., Mason City, with Pastor Kent A. Mechler officiating. Following the service cremation rites will be accorded and inurnment will take place at a future date in the Rock Grove Cemetery, rural Nora Springs.

A visitation with public viewing will be held from 1 p.m. until 2 p.m. on Friday at the funeral home.

Should friends desire, memorials may be left in Irene~s name to Good Shepherd Health Center.

Irene Lucille Anderson was born on February 6, 1928, in Ishpeming, Mich., the daughter of Sigurd and Myrtle (Bjurling) Anderson. While in her early teens Irene moved to California where she began working for the United States Postal Service.

In 1947 Irene was united in marriage to George Maskarina. The young couple moved to Mason City where they would begin to raise their family. Irene and George would be blessed with five children.

After George~s death in 1964, Irene began working to support her young family. She was employed by A.C. Nielsen for 15 years and then worked for JC Penney in the catalog department.

In 1970 Irene married Warren “Cy” Willier in Mason City. They would share 11 years together.

Irene~s family came first and foremost in her life. She was always caring for others before herself and had a selfless, easygoing attitude towards life. She cherished the time spent with her grandchildren and took every available opportunity to spoil them.

In her free time, Irene could often be found playing BINGO or Scrabble, and listening to music.

Those grateful in sharing in her life are her children, John (Cindy) Maskarina, Mason City, Jean (Mike) Foley, Ankeny, and Paul Maskarina, Mason City; her grandchildren, Abby, Tony, Chad, Michelle, Shane, Andrew, Jason, James, Lisa, George, and Jamie; great-grandchildren, Maya, Branden, Shelby, Taylor, Hayden and Valerie; her sisters, Nancy Aiskanen, Marion Basil and Connie Johnson; as well as many nieces, nephews and extended relatives.

She is preceded in death by her parents; her husbands, George Maskarina and Warren Willier; her two sons, Michael and James Maskarina; three sisters and one brother.
