KANAWHA — Marjorie Louise Omvig, 88, of Kanawha, passed away Tuesday, Jan. 15, 2013 at Mercy Medical Center-North Iowa in Mason City.
Funeral services for Marge Omvig will be held on Friday, Jan. 18, at 10:30 a.m. at the Kanawha Lutheran Church, 125 West Fourth St., Kanawha, with Pastors Geoffrey and Char White officiating. Burial will be at Amsterdam Township Cemetery in Kanawha.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, Jan. 17, from 5-7 p.m. at Ewing Funeral Home, 118 East Second St., Kanawha, and continue one hour prior to services at the church.
Marjorie Louise Omvig, the daughter of Adolph and Ruth (Paskin) Carlson, was born on July 5, 1924, on a farm 1½ miles west of Kanawha.
Marge attended all eight grades of country school at Rural School Amsterdam 4. She then transferred to Kanawha High School for two years before attending Britt High School and graduating on April 21, 1942. After graduation, Marge taught rural school for four years in Wright and Hancock counties.
On Jan. 3, 1946, Marge was united in marriage to Arthur Melvin Omvig. This union was blessed with two daughters: Diane and Linda. Once her daughters had graduated from high school, Marge worked at the North Iowa Elevator for one year. Then she worked at Bill’s Shop for six months before working at the Norway Rural Telephone Co. for 22 years.
Marge and Art lived on the farm for 40 years before they moved into Kanawha in 1987. Marge retired after working for a few more years and enjoyed time spent with family and friends. She was an active member of the Kanawha Lutheran Church.
Marge is survived by her daughter Diane (Jerry) Ebersviller; son-in-law Robert Zeigler; grandchildren, Melanie (Terry) Lottie, Joel (Sarah) Zeigler, Pam Holden, Becky (Tim) Luskey and Lori (Clint) Hatlestad; 10 great-grandchildren: Joshua, Suzie, Shelby, Sydney, Emma, Zachary, Taylor, Cole, Luke and Courtney; brother Carroll Carlson; sisters, Maxine Eliason, Jeanie Bonjour and Janice (Rex) Liekweg; sister-in-law Jeanne Carlson; along with numerous nieces, nephews, other family members and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Art, in 2004; daughter Linda in 2009; brothers, Leo and Harlan Carlson; and her sisters, Leona Abbas and Elaine Weiland.
