OSAGE — Mildred Olson, age 98, of Osage, died Friday, May 10, 2013.

Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday, May 14, with visitation one hour before at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Osage.

A coffee reception will follow. After the reception burial will be at the Osage Cemetery.

Mildred Cornwell Olson was born in Osage, Iowa, on Dec. 13, 1914, the daughter of Herbert and Nellie (Weaverling) Cornwell. She graduated from Osage High School in 1932.

In September of 1936 she was united in marriage to Alverne Olson. They lived in Osage all their married life except for a brief period in Florence, S.C., while Alverne was in the service and where, in 1945, their son was born.

She was a member of Our Saviors Lutheran Church, was active in her church circle and other church activities. She was a volunteer worker with Meals on Wheels, Faith Home Auxiliary, Red Cross Bloodmobile and the Mitchell County Food Bank. Mildred was on the Faith Home board of directors for 10 years as well as the Sister City Organizing Board. She worked at the Agricultural Stabilization Conservation Services office, retiring after 25 years in 1979.

She is survived by her son, Dr. Varick “Rick” Olson and his wife, Dr. Louise “Lolly” Fawcett of Roseville, Minn., and by grandchildren, Roderic Lee Olson of St. Paul, Minn., and Laura Marie Olson of Arlington, Va.

Also surviving are Carol Cornwell Tesch, Allan (Sharon) Cornwell and Mary Cornwell Sifrit and their families, including children and grandchildren. Carol, Allan and Mary made their home with Mildred and Alverne after the death of their parents.

Also surviving are Elizabeth Cornwell Redwine and Richard Cornwell and their families, including children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
