Manly — Marcella V. “Marcie” Mueller, 103, of Manly, Iowa, died Wednesday, April 30, 2013, at the Good Shepherd Health Center in Mason City, Iowa.
A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m on Monday, May 6, at the Bethel United Methodist Church, 503 E. South St., Manly, with Pastor Don Preston officiating. Burial will follow in the Manly Cemetery.
Visitation will be held one hour prior to Marcella’s service on Monday.
Should friends desire, memorials may be left in Marcella’s name in care of her family or to Bethel United Methodist Church.
Marcella Vivian Bergland was born on August 17, 1909, near Hettinger, N.D., the daughter of Olaf and Emma (Erlandson) Bergland. She attended school in Hettinger and then graduated from Iowa State University with a degree in Home Economics. She was a member of Sigma Alpha Lota, a national honor society. Her studies at Iowa State included music and arts.
She worked as an interior decorator for New England Furniture in Minneapolis and then for Meir Wolf and Sons in Mason City. She married Harold Mueller on January 2, 1931. They would be blessed with five children — Don, Eugene, Ray, Mary, and Paul.
Marcie and Harold moved to a farm southwest of Manly in 1933 and lived there until retirement in 1992 when they then moved to the Willows in Mason City.
Marcie was named Worth County Mother of the Year because of her community work in the church, 4-H, and in Manly High School music.
She was especially known for her excellence in cooking, gardening, and growing all kinds of flowers. She belonged to the garden club, study club, Home Economics club, and card clubs.
Marcie is loved and admired by her children, Eugene (Helen) Mueller, Manly, Ray (Kathy) Mueller, Evergreen, Colo., and Mary Griffith, Towson, Md.; 11 grandchildren; 16 great grandchildren; and two great- great-grandchildren; as well as extended family members and friends.
She is preceded in death by her parents; husband, Harold; sons, Don and Paul; and siblings.
