BELMOND | Jean M. Mills, 92, of Belmond, passed away Monday Nov. 11, 2013, at the Rehabilitation Center of Belmond.
Memorial services for Jean M. Mills will be held at 1:30 p.m. Saturday, November 23, 2013, at the Dugger Funeral Home, 111 Luick~s Lane South in Belmond. Pastor Connie Thayer will officiate. Burial will take place in the Belmond Cemetery
?Visitation will be held an hour prior to services Saturday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made in Jean M. Mills~ name to the family.
Jean Veeder Thayer Mills, the daughter of Leo and Mabelle Deising Veeder, was born Sept. 4, 1921, at Mrs. Gartens nursing home in Belmond. She attended rural school, and graduated from Belmond High School. Jean taught in rural school and then assisted in farming after her marriage to Gail Thayer in 1940. She was active in the Belmond United Methodist Church and served on the Building Committee in 1956-57. Jean was a member of the Beta Sigma Phi.
Jean moved to Arizona in 1972 and found relief from Rheumatoid Arthritis and Lupus. She divorced in 1973. Jean then married Clifton Mills in 1977, he died in 1989. In 2006, she returned to Belmond and resided in the Belmond Community Apartments until May of 2013. Jean moved to Belle Haven Apartments, where she was living when she passed away.
Jean is survived by her sons, Randall (Connie) Thayer of Belmond, James (Terri) Thayer of West Des Moines, granddaughters, Jennifer Thayer of Des Moines, Rebecca (Timothy) Berchenbriter of Cedar Rapids, grandson, Brett Thayer and family of Waukee, brother, Daniel (Christene) Veeder of Boone, relatives and friends.
She is preceded in death by her parents, husband, Gail Thayer, husband, Clifton Mills, grandson, Blake Thayer, sisters, Lois (Raymond) Daesch, and Betty (Harlan) Branch.
