Margaret T. “Peg” Hugo, 85, of Mason City, died Saturday (August 24, 2013) at the Nora Springs Care Center in Nora Springs, surrounded by her loving family.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday (August 27, 2013) at Epiphany Parish – St. Joseph Catholic Church 302 5th St. S.E., Mason city with the Rev. John Gossman as Celebrant. Burial will follow in Elmwood-St. Joseph Cemetery, Mason City.

Visitation will be held Monday evening (August 26, 2013) from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m. at Hogan Bremer Moore Colonial Chapel, 126 3rd St. N.E., Mason City. The Catholic Daughters of the Americas will recite the Rosary beginning at 4:30 p.m. and a Scriptural Wake service will be held at 7 p.m.

Margaret Irene Taborelli was born September 1, 1927 in West Haven, Connecticut, the daughter of Ernest and Margaret (Barcella) Taborelli. She attended and graduated from West Haven High School. Following her graduation Margaret began her lifelong career in banking.

On February 24, 1949 she was united in marriage to Donald Beller. Together, they made their home in in Nebraska before eventually settling in Iowa. As they began raising their family Margaret stayed home and tended to their children. They were blessed with four children, Donna, Eugene, Virginia, and Margaret. On September 7, 1970 Donald preceded Margaret in death and she then returned to her career in banking to support her young family.

On June 24, 1977 Margaret married LeRoy “Bud” Hugo at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Mason City, they would be blessed with 35 years of marriage.

She was employed at Pioneer Federal in Mason City for 17 years before her retirement in 1987. Following her retirement she spent next eight years at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Mason City where she served as a Lay Pastoral Minister for the parish.

In her free time Peg enjoyed playing cards and was a founding member of the Bridge Club, “4 Margarets and a Betty”. She also enjoyed bowling, cryptoquotes, travelling, and spending time with her family. She was very active within her church and throughout the years was a member of the Athenian Study Club, Beta Sigma Phi, and the Catholic Daughters of the Americas.

Those grateful in sharing in her life are her children, Donna (David) Adams, Newton, Gene (Dawn) Beller, Mason City, Ginny (Steve) Boone, Whitefish, Montana, and Peggy (Tim) Owen, Eugene, Oregon; step daughters, Connie (Dean) Davis, Bette Hugo, and Pam (Jack) Hewitt; 15 grandchildren; 15 great grandchildren; sister, Anne Schwebke; and many nieces and nephews.

She is preceded in death by her parents; her husbands, Donald Beller and LeRoy Hugo; and sisters, Virginia Taborelli and Irene Esposito.
