Joe C. Bauer, age 84, of Bancroft, died on Saturday, December 7, 2013 at his home. Mass of the Resurrection will be 2:00 PM Wednesday at St. John The Baptist Catholic Church in Bancroft, with Rev. Sunny Dominic officiating. Burial will be in St. John’s Cemetery in Bancroft. Visitation will be Noon until service time Wednesday at the church.

Joe Bauer, the son of Frank Sr. and Catherine (Matheis) Bauer, was born on February 15, 1929 in Swea City, Iowa. He graduated from Swea City High School in 1947. Joe began flying when he was 17 years old. Joe was the first in his family to learn to fly and had the distinction of being the youngest pilot at a flight breakfast in Spencer, Iowa in 1947. Joe worked in the oil fields, was a farmer and a brick layer. He owned and operated Bauer Spray Service. Joe also owned and operated the Bancroft Airport. He was a member of St. John The Baptist Catholic Church. Joe enjoyed brick laying, making horse shoe signs, buying and selling antiques and making Indian Artifacts.

Left to cherish Joe’s memory is his wife of 64 years, Faye; six children, Mike Bauer and his wife Linda and their children Jeff, Scott and Brad of Olathe, KS, Paula Clark and her husband Jim and their children Joshua and Amy Jo of West Des Moines, Pat Bauer and his wife Tanya and their children Jessi and Coleman of Bancroft, Mark Bauer and his wife Julie and their children Austin, Katie and Anna of Bancroft, Nick Bauer and his daughter Paiten of Bancroft, Joan Simpson and her husband Larry and their children Levi, Joey, Noelle and Sam of Rogers, MN; eight great grandchildren; four brothers, Ed Bauer and Matt Bauer of Bancroft, Frank Bauer, Jr. of Austin, TX and John (Mary) Bauer of Spirit Lake, Idaho; and a sister, Mary (Dale) Albright of Blue Earth, MN. He was preceded in death by his parents and a grandson Coleman Bauer.
