NORTHWOOD – Harry L. Barnd, 93 of Northwood, formerly of Mason City, died Saturday, Sept. 7, 2013, at Mercy Medical Center North Iowa. Memorial services will be held at 2 p.m., Monday, Sept. 16, 2013, at Wesley United Methodist Church, 1405 S. Pennsylvania Ave., with the Rev. Steve Hansen officiating. Inurnment will take place in Elmwood St. Joseph Cemetery.

The family will greet friends from 2 to 4 p.m., Sunday, Sept. 15, at Major Erickson Funeral Home & Crematory, 111 N. Pennsylvania Ave. Memorials may be directed to the Harry L. Barnd Memorial Fund. Online condolences may be left for the family at www.majorericksonfuneralhome.com.

Harry was born Sept. 30, 1919, in Garner, the son of Carl and Muriel (Lowe) Barnd. He graduated from Forest City High School in 1936 and Waldorf College in 1938. For several years, he farmed around the Forest City and Garner area. Harry married Irene Severson on July 20, 1938. She died in 1970. He then married Ruvella B. Hickman on July 28, 1972, at Deer Creek Valley Lutheran Church, rural Northwood. Harry worked for the Milwaukee Railroad for 37 year, retiring in 1980 as a conductor. He was a member of Wesley United Methodist Church, Moose Lodge, Elks Lodge and the U.T.U.

Harry is survived by his wife, Ruvella of Northwood; daughter, Frances Gaffney of Corrales, New Mexico; son-in-law, Roger Eagen of Wisconsin; 5 grandchildren; 2 great grandchildren; 4 step sons and spouses: Robert (Becky) Hickman, Russell (Judy) Hickman, Harold (Sally) Hickman, and Marv (Nancy) Hickman; 15 step grandchildren; numerous step great grandchildren; brother-in-law, Orlan Brunsvold.

Harry was preceded in death by his parents, first wife, Irene; daughter, Harriet Eagen; grandson, Kevin Eagen; son-n-law, Robert Gaffney; step-daughter, Carol Ryerson.
