LAS VEGAS, Nev. — Richard Dean Stephen, 67, of Las Vegas, Nev., formerly of Mason City, passed away Sept. 7, 2013. Funeral services will be held at Southern Nevada Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Boulder City, Nev.
Richard was born in Indianapolis, Ind., on May 20, 1946, to Raymond and June (Cartwright). He served in the Navy during the Vietnam War as a torpedoman third class on the U.S.S. Pickerel. In the 18 years he spent living in Mason City he was employed by American Realty, Yohn Ready Mix, and as a school bus driver for the Mason City School District. Richard enjoyed collecting and restoring classic cars, and had a special affinity for Mustangs. He was often seen driving his car or school bus as Santa Claus during the holiday season.
Richard is survived by his son, Ryan of Mason City; brother Rodney of Las Vegas; sister Ladonna of Las Vegas and sister Marlene of Virginia; eight nieces and nephews and two grand nieces.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Raymond and June (Cartwright).
