Thornton — Janice Waddingham, 73, of Thornton passed away Wednesday, April 17, 2013, at Oakwood Care Center in Clear Lake.
Funeral services will be held 10:30 a.m., Saturday, April 20, at the First Reformed Church in Meservey with the Rev. Rodney Meester presiding. Interment will be at the Meservey Cemetery. Visitation will be 4 to 7 p.m. Friday at the Retz Funeral Home, Thornton.
Janice Waddingham was born Dec. 13, 1939, in Belmond, the daughter of Louis and Kate (Koenen) Meinders. She attended and graduated from Meservey High School.
On Dec. 9, 1960, Janice was united in marriage with Tom Waddingham at First Reformed Church in Meservey. Tom served in the U.S. Army for the first few years of their marriage; they resided in Tacoma, Wash., where he was stationed. In 1962 they returned to Meservey and then Thornton, where together they farmed and raised their family.
Janice had a strong love of her family and faith. She held several offices in the church women’s groups and was active with church activities and singing. She loved music and her life on the farm. An accomplished seamstress Janice made many formal dresses and garments for her girls and friends. Janice was also a member of the Meservey Legion Auxiliary.
Cherishing her memory are her husband of 52 years, Tom, daughters: Paige (Brad) Warren, Cincinnati; Kendra (Scott) Pottebaum, Pleasant Hill; Sarah (Travis) Statlander, Overland Park, Kan.; six grandchildren: Kolby, Kade, Zachary, Katie, Reghan and Gavin.
Janice is preceded in death by her parents and grandson Tyson Warren.
