ALGONA — A funeral service for Iris E. Hinton will be held Saturday at 1 p.m. at Trinity Lutheran Church in Algona with the Rev. Dr. Steve Turner officiating. Burial will be prior to the service on Saturday at 11 a.m. at Greenwood Township Cemetery, Bancroft. Visitation will be from 4:30 to 7 p.m. today at Oakcrest Funeral Services of Algona.

Iris Elaine Hinton was born Sept. 26, 1928, in Sac County, daughter of Lawrence and Alma (Putbrese) Roseke. She was baptized at Zion Lutheran in Auburn and confirmed at St. Peters Lutheran Church in Farnhamville. Iris attended Calhoun country school and graduated from Gowrie High School.

Iris was married to James Hinton on July 23, 1950. They lived in Livermore, Algona and Bancroft. She worked at Gates Department Store, she sold Avon, worked at Bjustrom Furniture in Algona, and Garry Furniture and Shillington Hardware in Bancroft. Iris enjoyed her flower gardens, she was a member of Kossuth County Community Concert Association and was a Rotary Club member. She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church active in the choir, the LWML, the Couples Club and the Ladies Aid. Iris loved to cook and entertain family and friends and play cards with her grandchildren.

Iris moved into Huskamp Haven in Algona in September 2006 and became a resident of Good Samaritan Society in July, 2011. She died there on Wednesday, Sept. 4, 2013, at the age of 84.

She is survived by two children, Randal Hinton of Clear Lake and Lynette Vaske and her husband Tom of Webster City; nine grandchildren, Angie Spangenberg and her husband J.R. of Britt, Jamie Knorr and her husband Mike of Clear Lake, Rob Hinton and his wife Andrea of Humboldt, Abbie Meyer of Algona, Joe Hinton and his wife Chelsie of Clear Lake, Travis Vaske of Ames, Jason Vaske and his wife Bridget of Irvine, Calif., Jered Vaske and his wife Brooke of Waukee, and Tim Vaske of Coralville; and 15 great-grandchildren. She is also survived by one brother Lawrence Roseke and his wife Delores of Bella Vista, Ark.; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, and one sister, Myra Christopher.
