MASON CITY — Debra K. (Bardwell) Heginger, 55, of Mason City, passed away on Tuesday, April 23, 2013, at her home, after a lengthy battle with cancer.

Memorial services will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, April 27, at Major Erickson Funeral Home, 111 N. Pennsylvania Ave., with Pastor Ed Bard, chaplain, Hospice of North Iowa, officiating. Inurnment will be at the Amsterdam Cemetery in Goodell.

A gathering of family and friends will be from 5 to 8 p.m. on Friday, April 26, at Major Erickson Funeral Home.

Memorials may be directed to the Debra K. (Bardwell) Heginger memorial fund in care of the family.

Debra was born Dec. 24, 1957, in Iowa City, the daughter of Emery and Wanda (Smit) Bardwell. Her father passed away in 1961, when she was 3½ years of age. Debra attended school at Belmond, graduating in 1976.

She married Rick Heginger, and to this union they had a son, Jason. The couple later divorced. Over the years, Debra worked at Forester Trailer Factory, Winnebago Industries, Best Western and ServiceMaster. Debbie lived in Klemme, Clear Lake and the Forest City area before moving to Mason City in 2001. She enjoyed reading, crossword puzzles, collecting Dale Earnhardt Sr. memorabilia and spending time in the park.

Debbie is survived by her son, Jason, and his partner, Jerry of West St. Paul, Minn.; her mother, Wanda Hall; sister, Peggy Hall; step-brother, Donald Hall; and uncle, Warren Smit — all of Mason City. She is also survived by her beloved cat, Oreo.

She was preceded in death by her father and her stepfather.
