Starla Jean Haney, 55 of Scarville, IA, died Thursday, March 14, 2013 after a 1&½ year battle with cancer, at Methodist Hospital in Rochester, MN.

Funeral service will be held at 1:30 PM on Tuesday, March 19, 2013, at Salem Lutheran Church in Lake Mills, with Pastor David E. Jordon officiating. Burial will be in Immanuel Lutheran Cemetery, rural Scarville.

Visitation will be on Monday, March 18, 2013, from 5:00 to 7:00 PM at Mittelstadt Funeral Home, 902 East Main Street in Lake Mills, and will continue one hour prior to services at the church on Tuesday.

Starla Jean (Behr) Haney was born in Albert Lea, Minnesota, on May 12, 1957, to parents Eldo and Darlene (Leegaard) Behr. She grew up near Conger, Minnesota, and attended and graduated from Alden-Conger High School.

On May 8, 1976, Starla was united in marriage with Mitchel L. Haney, and the couple had two children, Heather and Alex. The family made their home in the Lake Mills/Scarville area.

Starla worked at Winnebago Industries for 30 years. She loved spending time with her family and friends. Free time was spent enjoying auctions, garage sales, and the outdoors.

She is survived by her two children, Heather (Kurt Loverink) Haney of Thompson, IA, and Alex (Tara Walker) Haney of Scarville, IA; two grandchildren, Maya and Dylan; her mother, Darlene Behr of Conger, MN; and two brothers, Alan (Debbie) Behr of Kiester, MN, and Kevin (Darla) Behr of Lutz, FL. Starla is also survived by a sister-in-law, Sharon (Pat) Gorman, many cousins, nieces, nephews, relatives in the Haney family, and friends.

She was preceded in death by her father Eldo; and her husband, Mitch in 1993.
