BELMOND | Roman G. Johnson, age 90, formerly of Alexander, passed away Friday June 27, 2014, at the Rehabilitation Center of Hampton.
Funeral services for Roman G. Johnson will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday July 1, 2014, at the First Reformed Church in Alexander. Pastor Phil Arnold will officiate.
Burial will take place in the Alexander Cemetery east of Alexander.
Visitation for Roman G. Johnson will be held from 4:30-6:30 p.m. Monday, June 30, 2014, at the Dugger Funeral Home, 111 Luicks Lane S. in Belmond, and will continue one hour prior to services on Tuesday.
Roman George, the son of C.C. and Johanna (Sporra) Johnson, was born January 12, 1924, at home near Alexander.
Roman grew up in the Alexander area where he attended school through the 8th grade. Roman then began working with his father farming.
Roman married Wilma J. Schmidt on February 25, 1947, and started farming on his own. Roman also helped Westaby Trucking for 17 years. He later bought his own semi-truck and trailer in 1973.
After retiring, Roman went to work for Yohn Ready Mix in Belmond for several years.
Roman was baptized and joined the First Reformed Church in Meservey in 1948 and later transferred to Alexander First Reformed Church.
Besides spending time with his family, Roman enjoyed trucking and farming. Upon retirement he enjoyed fishing, playing golf and camping with friends. Roman and Wilma enjoyed several years wintering in Arizona.
Roman is survived by his two daughters, Pamela Meyer and husband Terry of Thornton, Nancy Schermer and husband Bill of Clarion, five grandchildren, Stacy Palmer and husband Jeff, Jason Meyer, Kimberly Meyer, Angela Schermer, Troy Schermer and wife, Tonya, six great-grandchildren, Clayton and Evan Palmer, Tyanna Skovlund, Jaxon McLemore, Jacob and Kalli Schermer, a sister, Verna Kramer of Minnesota, two sisters-in-law, Donna Johnson of Meservey, Shirley Faaborg of Clear Lake, and numerous other nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his parents, wife, Wilma, a son, Larry, three brothers, John, Virgil, Merlin, and two sisters, Irene and Jennie.
