BELMOND | Anna Margaret Dorenkamp, age 94, of Belmond, passed away Tuesday, Sept. 9, 2014, at Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit in Mason City.
Funeral services for Margaret Dorenkamp will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 13, 2014, at the United Methodist Church in Belmond. Pastor Doug Love of Calvary Baptist Church in Belmond will officiate.
Burial will take place in the Belmond Cemetery.
Visitation will be held from 5-7 p.m. Friday, Sept. 12, 2014, at Dugger Funeral Homes, 111 Luicks Lane South in Belmond, and will continue for one hour prior to services Saturday at the church. A time for sharing family memories will be held Friday at the funeral home at 7 p.m.
The family desires memorial contributions be made in Margaret Dorenkamp’s name to North Iowa Hospice.
Anna Margaret, the daughter of Elling and Anna Margaret Michelson Soma, was born June 1, 1920, west of Belmond. She grew up in the Belmond area where she attended Belmond Schools graduating in 1939.
Margaret was united in marriage to Alvin Dorenkamp on Jan. 3, 1945, at the Trinity Lutheran Church Parsonage. The couple made their homes south of Belmond, shortly, before moving to Cedar Falls. While in Cedar Falls, Margaret worked for the Nip & Sip Café near the college. After moving back to Clarion and Belmond, Margaret worked as homemaker and raised a family. Alvin and Margaret eventually moved to Clear Lake, where they lived for 32 years. In later retirement, the couple wintered in Dallas, Texas, and Phoenix, Arizona.
Margaret gave her life to Jesus Christ when she was 26. She was a loving, devoted parishioner of Calvary Baptist Church in Belmond. Margaret was a faithful church attendee throughout her entire life.
Margaret enjoyed spending time with her husband, the love of her life. She loved her family and would do anything for them. She was very caring, kind, and compassionate, as well as very soft hearted.
Margaret really loved her family gatherings, activities, and reading her Bible daily. She also enjoyed games, traveling, baking, and word-find books.
Margaret is survived by her husband of nearly 70 years, Alvin. They were blessed with four children, Dennis (Helen) of Peoria, Arizona, Harlan (Denise) of Belmond, Marcia (Larry) Christensen of Thornton, Beverly of Scottsdale, Arizona. They were also blessed with 14 grandchildren, 28 great-grandchildren, one great-granddaughter, and numerous nieces, nephews and friends.
She is preceded in death by her parents, a great-granddaughter, Shelby Jo, six sisters, Gladys, Bernice, Shirley, Adelaide, Viola, June, four brothers, Jovial, Norris, Melvin and Elmer.
