MANLY | Mary Delores Hagen, 91, Manly, died Friday, Sept. 5, 2014, at the Manly Nursing & Rehabilitation Center, two days before her 92nd birthday.

A mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, Sept. 8, 2014, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 412 N. Broadway St., Manly. Following the services, cremation will be accorded with inurnment at a later date in the Sacred Heart Catholic Cemetery.

Visitation will be held from 4 to 6 p.m. Sunday with a scriptural and prayer service at 5 p.m. followed by a rosary at the Bride Colonial Chapel, 110 E. Spring St., Manly.

Mary Delores Hagen was born on Sept. 7, 1922, in Manly, the daughter of Arthur and Bernadette (Martin) Doebel. Mary attended the Manly Community schools, graduating from Manly High School.

She was united in marriage to Orville Hagen in April of 1940, at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Orville preceded her in death on Feb. 10, 1975. Mary loved and enjoyed being a stay-at-home mother, raising her nine children. In later years, she worked for the North Iowa Community Action Center in Mason City until she retired.

Mary enjoyed playing Scrabble, rebating, playing 500 cards, reading, her church and family.

She was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, St. Ann’s Catholic Guild, and the Edward-Tosel American Legion Ladies Auxiliary.

Those left to cherish her memory are her children, Tom (Dorothy) Hagen of Carpenter, Knute Hagen of Portland, Oregon, and Sarah Hall of Elk River, Minnesota; 16 grandchildren, 30 great-grandchildren, and 8 great-great-grandchildren; her sisters-in-law, Bonnie Doebel of Clear Lake, and Leone Christiansen of Mason City; as well as nieces, nephews, and many other extended family members and friends.

Mary was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Orville; children, Sharon Hrubetz, Betty Nitcher, Marcus Hagen, Mary “Toots” Rork, Monica Nitcher, and Becky Pierce; grandchildren, Janice and Marcus Hull; her brother, Marcus Doebel, and her sister, Monica Hagen.

Mary~s words to her family that she loved so much is “Help the rest to understand that this is not a sad time. My time with my family was so precious to me, and God kindly gave me a long time to enjoy them.”
