OWA CITY | Carl Robert (Bob) Petersen, 91, of Iowa City passed away peacefully on Sunday morning, Aug. 31, 2014.

His funeral will be at Gloria Dei Lutheran Church, 123 East Market St., Iowa City, at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, Sept. 6, 2014.

Visitation will be at the church from 9:30-10:30 a.m.

Lensing Funeral Home is in charge of funeral arrangements.

Bob was born Nov. 13, 1922, in Clear Lake to Anton and Andrea (Nelsen) Petersen. He married Esther Asbe on June 10, 1944, in Charles City. She survives him.

Survivors also include Bob’s daughter, Julie Busch (Douglas) of Iowa City; two grandchildren, Amy Busch Beim (Tucker) of Menlo Park, California, and Andrew Busch (Katina) of Dubuque; and four great-grandchildren, Lucas and James Busch and Mariah and Lauren Beim. Bob is also survived by one sister, Lillian Hake, of Arcadia, California, as well as several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and three sisters, Marie Allen, Marion Birkestrand, and Christine Petersen.

Bob graduated from Clear Lake High School and Hamilton Business College in Mason City. He worked for several years for the Milwaukee, St. Paul, and Pacific Railroad. He then spent most of his career working for Armour Food Company in Mason City and was promoted to beef manager in 1956. Armour transferred him to Memphis, Tennessee, in 1975 to be the beef manager of the southeastern United States. When ConAgra Foods purchased Armour, Bob was transferred to Louisville, Kentucky, where he worked until retirement. After retirement, Bob and Esther moved to Iowa City to be near family.

On June 10, 2014, Bob and Esther celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary. Bob was a member of Gloria Dei Lutheran Church in Iowa City. He was a devoted husband and a loving father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He led a life centered around his family and his faith. Everyone who knew him loved him.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Gloria Dei Lutheran Church or Iowa City Hospice.
