Harry J. Fox, 87, of Charles City, died Monday, September 1, 2014 at the 11th Street Chautauqua Guest Home in Charles City.
Funeral services for Harry Fox will be held 2:00 p.m. Friday, September 5, 2014 at the Hauser Funeral Home. Pastor Jim Beranek will officiate. Burial will be in Sunnyside Memory Gardens, rural Charles City.
Friends may call at the Hauser Funeral Home from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday, September 4, 2014 and one hour prior to the service at the funeral home on Friday.
Harry Junior Fox, the son of Harry B. and Nellie M. (Carney) Fox, was born July 12, 1927 on the family farm in Oakwood, Iowa. He was raised in Floyd County, attending and graduating from Charles City High School. After high school, Harry worked on the family farm helping support his mother. On June 5, 1949 he was united in marriage to Lorraine J. Heitz at the home of the bride~s parents in rural Charles City. The couple farmed north of Rudd for nine years then bought a farm southeast of Charles City where they lived and worked for 29 years. The couple moved into Charles City in 1987. Lorraine died September 18, 1995. On June 14, 1997 Harry married Dixie L. (Hart) Warrington at Trinity United Methodist Church in Charles City. The couple made their home in Charles City.
Harry was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church where he held many offices over the years. He was Assistant Manager at the A&B Elevator for a few years, a volunteer rural fireman, served on the Northeast Iowa Research Farm Board, a member of the Floyd County Extension Council, served on the County 4-H Committee, treasurer of Floyd County Farm Bureau and served on the Farm Service Coop Board.
Harry~s whole world was family and farming and he took great pride in both. He enjoyed the history of the area and seeing old farm equipment. Harry loved spending time with his family, listening to music and reading.
Living family members include his wife, Dixie of Charles City; three sons: Robert H. (Ruth) Fox of Cedar Rapids, Thomas G. (Robin) Fox of Hoffman Estates, Illinois and John A. (Kathy) Fox of Charles City; son-in-law, Jim Anderberg of Vienna, Maine; eight grandchildren: Aaron, Michael and Christopher Anderberg, Carl Gauley, Taylor Fox and Daniel, Brian and Sean Fox; five great-grandchildren; sister, Genevieve Boyd of Charles City; four step-children: Dan Warrington of Cedar Falls, Doug Warrington of Metter, Georgia, Dave Warrington of Benton, Arkansas and Diana Hochstetler of Sidney, Ohio; eight step-grandchildren: Trista, Brett and Seth Warrington, Angel, McKenzie, Samantha, Sarah and Savannah Warrington and Treasure Hochstetler; several step-great-grandchildren; along with numerous nieces, nephews, other family members and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife Lorraine; daughter Jean; and two sisters: Lucille Fluhrer and Lenore Fluhrer.
