LAKE FOREST PARK, Wash. | Mary Carol Monahan, 102 years, 3 months and 19 days, of Lake Forest Park, Washington., and former long time resident of Manly, passed away on July 23, 2014, with her family by her side.
The Rosary and Funeral Mass were held on Tuesday, July 29, at St. Marks Catholic Church, Shoreline, Washington. Eulogy for the ceremony was provided by Carol’s nephew, Mr. Philip Strand, of Hampton.
Interment will take place at Sacred Heart Cemetery in Manly, Saturday, Sept. 27, at 11 a.m. followed by a short gathering of family and friends to share memories of Carol.
Carol was born April 4, 1912, in Moody County, South Dakota, to her parents, William and Mayme (Loughlin) Forman. She was baptized and confirmed in the Catholic faith at St. Leo’s Catholic Church in Pipestone, Minnesota. Carol grew up on the Forman farm outside of Pipestone where she attended high school.
On June 25, 1951, she was united in marriage to Hugh Patrick Monahan at St. Leo’s Catholic Church in Pipestone and they made their home in Manly. Carol was an active parish member of Sacred Heart Church in Manly and was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary. Carol worked in the late ~60s and early ~70s at Klipto’s Printing in Mason City.
In December 1981, Carol and her husband Hugh retired to Sun City, California, where she was an active member of the Sun City Bridge Club and served as a Charter Member to the Sun City Iowa Club. Carol loved traveling, walking and baking.
Mary Carol is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Hugh William and Kathryn Monahan, and grandson, Patrick James Monahan of Lake Forest Park, Washington. Mary is also survived by many loving nieces and nephews.
Carol was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Hugh Patrick Monahan; and four brothers, William, Darrell, Edward and Virgil.
