ROCHESTER, Minn. | Lucille Weland, 94, formerly of Mason City, passed away on Wednesday, Aug. 27, 2014, at The Golden Living Center East in Rochester, after a brief illness.

Lucille Elizabeth Fisher was born on Feb. 1, 1920, in Spillville, the daughter of Anton and Anna Fisher. She graduated from Decorah High School, and upon graduating from Hamilton Business School in Mason City, began employment in the communications department of Mercy Hospital in Mason City.

She married Walter Weland on May 20, 1947, at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church in Cedar Rapids. They raised their family in Mason City. After taking time off for her family, she returned to Mercy Hospital as supervisor of the communications department, a position she kept until her retirement in 1985.

Lucille was active in many projects in St. Joseph Church in Mason City, as well as being involved with the activities of her two daughters. In 2005 she moved to Rochester to be with her daughter Jean. She enjoyed the new environment of Resurrection parish in Rochester.

She is survived by her daughter Jean in Rochester, her sister Lorraine in Minneapolis, and several nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her husband Walter, her daughter Anne, her brother Leonard and sisters Lillian, Loretta, and Leona.

The funeral Mass will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, Aug. 29, at Resurrection Catholic Church in Rochester, Minn., with the Rev. Shawn Haremza officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church on Friday.
