MARBLE ROCK | A Memorial Service for Irven Henry Tegtmeier, 82, of Marble Rock, will be 1 p.m., Saturday, August 23, 2014 at the Walter Bohl Community Center in Marble Rock with Rev. Msgr. Walter Brunkan officiating. Burial will be in the Hillside Cemetery, Marble Rock, Iowa.
Irven Henry Tegtmeier was born May 12, 1932, outside of Charles City, Iowa, a son of Henry and Emma (Hesse) Tegtmeier and passed away Tuesday, August 12, 2014 at his home in Marble Rock while under the care of Hospice of North Iowa and his family.
Memorial services will be held in the Walter Bohl Community Center in Marble Rock, (time-date), with Msgr. Fr. Walter Brunkan presiding. Interment will be at Hillside Cemetery, Marble Rock. A time of fellowship will follow the service at the Community Center.
Irven Tegtmeier attended Marble Rock School and at a young age began working for the Weedy Western Railroad, an electric train between Charles City and the Rock Island Line in Marble Rock.
On November 17, 1951 Irven was united in marriage with Elizabeth Arends at the Baptist Church in Marble Rock. This union was blessed with one son, Jim.
In the spring of 1951 he began working for Oliver in Charles City and worked as a painter for over 33 years. After his retirement from White Farm Equipment, Irven worked part time for Floyd County Ag and began his own business as Tegtmeier Backhoe and Trucking.
He was active in the businesses until being diagnosed with cancer in 2012.
Family was very important to this hard working man. A devoted father, grandfather and great-grandfather, Irven lived the last 2 years to see his great-grandchildren. He enjoyed riding and hitching his horses.
Surviving family include his wife of 62 years, Elizabeth; son: Jim (LuAnne) Tegtmeier, Marble Rock; granddaughters: Kristy Tegtmeier and daughter, Elizabeth; Chelsie (Tracy) Purchase and daughter, Kenzie; sisters: Lois Fisher, Marbler Rock; Janice (Ken) Beznoska, Mason City; nieces and nephews.
Preceding Irven in death are his parents, three brothers: LeRoy, Paul and Alan.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Retz Funeral Home, Marble Rock.
