Joan Harriet (Busch) Michael, the daughter of John H. and Mary Susie (Albert) Busch, was born October 19, 1921 at home in rural Floyd County, Iowa. She attended school in Floyd. On November 4, 1939 Joan was united in marriage to Wendell L. Michael at the Floyd Methodist Church. The couple made their home in rural Floyd County where they raised their family and helped one another on the farm. Joan loved to paint animals and murals, play Scrabble and dominoes, dance and help any neighbor who needed it whenever possible. She crocheted rugs, enjoyed sewing, making candles and gardening. One thing she always did for her family was to preserve fruits and vegetables to last through the winter. Joan was a pioneer at heart who lived off of the land. She was a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution. Joan will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved her. The family wishes that those attending the funeral dress casually. Joan was a very casual person who welcomed all into her home.

Left behind to cherish her memory are her five children: Marlene Marth of Floyd (special friend Allan Cerwinske), Roger (Kathleen) Michael of Colwell, Karla (Robert) Thomas of Charles City, Brenda Olson of St. Ansgar and Ronald (Mary) Michael of Floyd; ten grandchildren; twenty-two great-grandchildren; sixteen great-great grandchildren; along with several nieces, nephews, other family members and friends.

Those waiting to welcome her into her new home were her parents, John and Mary Busch; husband, Wendell; grandson, Christan Neilson; son-in-law, David Marth; and three sisters along with their husbands: Dorothy (Everett) Exline, Betty (Clarence “Rip”) Collins and Joybelle (Fred) Perry.
