After Gene graduated from Ayrshire High School in 1948, he farmed with his dad until he moved to Mason City where he attended Hamilton Business College. Following his education, Gene started working for Thermogas as a bookkeeper, moving to manager, until his retirement in 1996.
In 1968, Gene married the love of his life Mary Lou McMahon, a union that was blessed with two children, Lori and Mark.
Gene loved to work, even after his retirement, he was a substitute janitor at Mason City Public Schools. He also enjoyed tinkering in the garage, driving his El Camino, snowmobiling, boating, and riding his bike. Gene rode RAGBRAI for a couple years, and later drove support bus.
Gene loved to attend all of the Newman Catholic School events. He went to Schills for coffee every morning, and attended a Thermogas reunion in Des Moines every year.
Gene was a member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, and was a part of the Knights of Columbus.
Family was also a big part of Gene’s life. He loved attending his grandchildren’s activities, and wrote them hand written letters. He was known for his pocket calendar, where you can find jokes and quotes he loved, as well as for his little pocketknife that he always carried.
Left to cherish Gene’s memory are his wife, Mary Lou, daughter, Lori (Dr. Joe) Miller of Urbandale, IA, son, Mark (Michele) Rosacker of Rogers, MN, four grandchildren, Sydnee Miller, Jake Miller, Preston Rosacker, and Cade Rosacker, one sister, Leila Eagan of Bellville, TX, and one brother John Rosacker of Spencer, IA.
