Her father worked for the Great Western Railroad. Her mother, originally from England, came to the United States alone at the age of 14.

Juanita spent the last days of her life living in Mason City near her children and grandchildren.

Juanita was a homemaker all her life. She loved her home. She and Lou built their ranch style home in Mount Vernon in 1968 with Lou doing a lot of the construction and she the decorating. She was very proud of all of her children finished college. She herself went back at the age of 51 and earned her high school diploma through Kirkwood College.

She was a good cook and will be remembered for her big holiday dinners of turkey or ham, homemade ice cream, pies, cakes, cookies, cinnamon rolls, and kolaches.
