MASON CITY | Linda Kay Sweeney, 62, of Mason City, died Saturday, March 8, 2014, at the Muse-Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit in Mason City.
Funeral services are scheduled at 3:30 p.m. Thursday, March 13, at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses with Mr. Bill Cummings officiating. A gathering of friends and family will be held from 4:30 to 7 p.m. Thursday, March 13, 2014, at The Music Man Square, Mason City.
Linda was born on Aug. 24, 1951, in Forest City to Madeline (Hoveland) and Bert Solsaa. She attended school in Ventura, Nora Springs and Mason City, graduating in 1969.
She married Jim Sweeney on January 23, 1970, in Mason City. They were the parents of two children, Amy and Jeffrey. She was baptized as one of Jehovah’s Witnesses in 1975.
She worked at A.C. Nielsen briefly after graduating, then as a full-time mom until her children were older. She then worked at Sears, was self-employed wall-papering and painting, worked at Norwest/Wells Fargo Bank for 14 years and at Anastasi Counseling Services for 10 years, semi-retiring in 2011. She enjoyed many hobbies and interests including reading, walking, games, puzzles and cards and doing anything with her family, especially her five precious grandchildren, whom she adored.
Linda is survived by her husband of 44 years, Jim; her daughter, Amy Siefken (Travis Benson), Clear Lake; her son Jeff (Jonna), Newton; her step-mother, Sandra Solsaa, Mason City; her four brothers and sisters, Ron (Mary), Needville, Texas, Karen, Clute, Texas, Randy (Susan), Mason City, and Patti (Mike) Heinold, Charleston, Ill; step-sister Jean (Brad) Heagel, Kensett; her five grandchildren, Shayna Siefken, Mason City, Spencer Siefken, Mason City, Annika Benson, Clear Lake, and Jacob and Jarret Sweeney, Newton. She is also survived by her two sisters-in-law, Carolyn (Mike) Lura, Gardner, Kan., and Nancy Theilen, Mason City, many nieces and nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews and cousins, and many close friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, grandparents, aunts and uncles, her mother- and father-in-law, Arlene and Kenneth Sweeney, and brother-in-law, Terry Theilen.
