Thelma Marie Thilges was born December 2, 1924, in St. Joseph, Iowa, the daughter of John and Elizabeth (Reding) Bormann. She grew up near St. Joe where she received her education and graduated from St. Joseph High School. After her schooling she worked as a housekeeper in the St. Joe area.
On September 10, 1946, Thelma was united in marriage to Edwin C. “Eddie” Thilges at St. Joseph Catholic Church in St. Joe. After their marriage they lived and farmed near Bode. In 1987, they retired from farming and moved to West Bend.
Thelma enjoyed farming, fishing, playing cards, crocheting, making rosaries and having coffee with friends. She was a member of the Sts. Peter and Paul Parish.
Thelma died Wednesday, February 26, 2014, at the Algona Manor Care Center in Algona, Iowa. She was 89.
Left to cherish her memory is her children, Jerald and Shirley Thilges of Fort Dodge; Donald and Colleen Thilges of West Bend; Ruth and Dave Ludwig of Algona; Judy and John Tornabane of Fort Dodge; Janet and Dave Fickbohm of Whittemore; Keith and Patty Thilges of Fort Dodge; Nancy and Nick Pranger of Ankeny; 18, grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren. Also surviving is a brother, Maurice and Elaine Bormann of Madison, WI; brothers-in-law, Alfred Bormann and Clarence Frideres both of Algona and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Edwin “Eddie” Thilges on January 7, 2011, and a granddaughter, Carrie
